Today on Mother’s Day we would like to honor one of our favorite oncology nurses from Lucile Packard. Her name is Shelly. She’s been a pediatric oncology nurse for 12 years. What’s special about Shelley, besides everything, is that Shelley and Kristin, founder of Team G, went to nursing school together over 14 years ago. Shelley was there when Gabriella was first diagnosed holding our hand and making sure we were okay. She gave us tissue when we needed it, was a shoulder to cry on, and a rock that we could rely on. Being a mom to two wonderful little ones herself, she understood. This Mother’s Day we just want to say thank you to Shelley for all that you do for our oncology children. You’re an inspiration, a welcoming face, an amazing mother, and we are so grateful to have pediatric oncology nurses like you.
“My name is Shelley and I am a pediatric hematology/oncology nurse at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. I have been working at LPCH for 12 years. My journey in pediatric oncology started while I was in nursing school. I spent my summers volunteering at an amazing oncology camp called Camp Okizu. The campers were so inspiring and I realized that pediatric oncology would be my life’s work.
There have been many changes in my life over the past 12 years. I am now married and have two beautiful kids, ages 5 and 8. My life as a mom has only enhanced my love for my career. Although it is challenging at times to be a working mom, it is the best of both worlds. I enjoy every second I spend with my children and am also able to continue a career that I love.”

Happy Mother’s Day Shelly and happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there!
